Stop Chasing the Money: Why Fixing Your Inner World is the Key to True Success
Dec 23, 2024For a long time, I believed the lie that many of us are sold: if you want success, just follow the right strategy. Learn the business hacks, create the perfect offer, master the marketing funnel, and the money will come rolling in.
But let me tell you something I’ve learned the hard way: business is easy to learn. Strategies, systems, and tools—they’re everywhere. What’s not easy is getting out of your own way.
You can have the best strategy in the world, but if you’re stuck in self-doubt, fear of failure, or people-pleasing, it won’t matter. Your inner world will block your outer success every single time.
I’ve been there. I’ve seen the pattern play out in my own life and in the lives of countless others. The truth is, when you do the deep inner work—when you fix your shit—success becomes a natural by-product. The money, the growth, the opportunities—they flow when you stop sabotaging yourself.
So, let’s dive deep into why focusing on the money won’t work, why fixing your inner world is the key to true success, and actionable steps to help you start your inner transformation.
My Breaking Point: When Money Wasn’t the Answer
I’ll never forget the moment I realized it wasn’t about the money. At that time, I had everything I thought I needed to succeed. I had a well-designed offer, a solid strategy, and a clear vision for where I wanted to go. On paper, everything looked perfect.
But nothing was working. I felt stuck, frustrated, and overwhelmed. No matter how much effort I put in, I couldn’t seem to break through to the level of success I envisioned.
I kept thinking, What’s wrong? Why isn’t this working? And then it hit me: It’s not the business. It’s me.
I was so focused on doing everything “right” that I wasn’t dealing with what was happening inside. I was terrified of being judged. I worried about failing. And deep down, I didn’t believe I deserved the success I was working toward.
That realization was humbling. But it was also freeing. Because once I saw that the problem was internal, I knew I had the power to change it.
Why Chasing the Money Doesn’t Work
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to make money. Money gives you freedom, options, and the ability to create the life you want. But when money is your primary focus, you miss the bigger picture.
Here’s why chasing the money doesn’t work:
- It Creates Pressure.
When you’re focused solely on the outcome (money), you put immense pressure on yourself. This pressure often leads to stress, burnout, and poor decision-making. - It Blocks Authenticity.
If your goal is just to make money, it’s easy to fall into the trap of trying to be someone you’re not. You start creating from a place of scarcity and fear rather than alignment and purpose. - It Leads to Short-Term Thinking.
Chasing money often results in quick fixes and surface-level solutions. True success requires a long-term vision and the patience to build something meaningful. - It Keeps You in a Cycle of Lack.
When your focus is on what you don’t have (enough money), you’re operating from a place of scarcity. And scarcity only attracts more scarcity.
Why Fixing Your Inner World is the Key to Success
Your inner world is the foundation of everything you create in your outer world. If you’re carrying unresolved fears, limiting beliefs, or self-doubt, they will show up in how you approach your business, relationships, and life.
Here’s how your inner world impacts your success:
- Your Energy Sets the Tone.
People can sense your energy, even if they’re not consciously aware of it. If you’re operating from fear or desperation, it creates a barrier that repels opportunities and clients. - Your Beliefs Shape Your Actions.
If you don’t believe you’re worthy of success, you’ll unconsciously sabotage yourself. Maybe you procrastinate, avoid taking risks, or play small to avoid failure. - Your Mindset Determines Your Resilience.
When challenges arise (and they will), your mindset determines whether you rise to the occasion or let setbacks defeat you.
Fixing your inner world doesn’t mean achieving perfection. It means learning to recognize and address the patterns, beliefs, and fears that are holding you back.
The Deep Work: How to Fix Your Inner World
The journey to inner growth is deeply personal, but there are universal tools and practices that can help you uncover and overcome your blocks. Here’s how to get started:
1. Identify and Question Your Beliefs
Your beliefs shape your reality. If you believe success is hard, that you’re not good enough, or that money is scarce, those beliefs will become your truth.
How to do it:
- Write down the beliefs you have about money, success, and yourself. For example:
- “I have to work hard to make money.”
- “I’m not smart enough to succeed.”
- “People like me don’t make it big.”
- Ask yourself: Is this belief absolutely true? Where did it come from?
- Replace limiting beliefs with empowering ones, like:
- “Success can be joyful and aligned.”
- “I’m capable and deserving of success.”
- “I have everything I need to thrive.”
2. Get to Know Your Triggers
Triggers are emotional reactions that reveal where you need healing. When you’re triggered, it’s an opportunity to explore what’s beneath the surface.
How to do it:
- Notice when you feel reactive, stuck, or overwhelmed.
- Ask yourself: What is this reaction really about?
- Dig deeper to uncover the story or belief driving the reaction.
For example, if you feel jealous of someone else’s success, the deeper belief might be, “I’m not good enough.” Once you’re aware of the belief, you can work on shifting it.
3. Let Go of Perfectionism
Perfectionism is often rooted in fear—fear of failure, judgment, or not being enough. But perfectionism keeps you stuck.
How to do it:
- Challenge the idea that everything needs to be perfect before you take action.
- Adopt the mindset: Done is better than perfect.
- Celebrate progress, not perfection.
When you embrace imperfection, you free yourself to take bold, messy action—and that’s where growth happens.
4. Practice Self-Compassion
Inner work isn’t about fixing yourself because you’re broken. It’s about healing, growing, and stepping into your full potential.
How to do it:
- Treat yourself with kindness, especially when things don’t go as planned.
- Remind yourself that growth is a process, not a destination.
- Celebrate small wins along the way.
When you approach yourself with compassion, you create a safe space for transformation.
5. Invest in Support
Sometimes, you need help to navigate the deeper layers of your inner world. A coach, therapist, or mentor can provide guidance, tools, and accountability.
How to do it:
- Find someone you trust who resonates with your goals and values.
- Be open to feedback and willing to do the work.
- Remember, investing in yourself is one of the most valuable things you can do.
6. Take Aligned Action
Inner work is important, but it’s only part of the equation. True transformation happens when you pair inner growth with aligned action.
How to do it:
- Ask yourself: What’s one step I can take today that aligns with my goals?
- Take that step, even if it feels uncomfortable or imperfect.
- Trust that every action, no matter how small, moves you closer to where you want to be.
How Inner Work Transforms Your Business
When you prioritize inner growth, everything in your business changes. Here’s how:
- You Attract Aligned Opportunities.
When you’re clear, confident, and authentic, you naturally attract clients, partnerships, and opportunities that align with your values. - You Show Up with Confidence.
Instead of hesitating or second-guessing yourself, you take bold, decisive action because you trust your ability to succeed. - You Create from a Place of Abundance.
When you’re not operating from scarcity or fear, you create work that resonates deeply with your audience. - You Handle Challenges with Grace.
Inner work gives you the tools to navigate setbacks without spiraling into self-doubt or fear.
My Personal Transformation
Looking back, I realize the biggest shifts in my business didn’t come from learning new strategies—they came from transforming myself.
When I stopped chasing the money and started focusing on my own growth, everything fell into place. The money came as a by-product of the work I did on the inside. And the best part? The success felt aligned, meaningful, and sustainable.
Your Invitation
If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or frustrated in your business, I invite you to take a step back. Stop chasing the money. Start chasing the version of yourself who’s ready to receive it.
Fixing your inner world isn’t easy, but it’s the most powerful thing you can do. Because when you transform yourself, your business—and your life—will transform as a result.
You have everything you need within you. Now it’s time to get out of your own way and let it shine.
